Global Storm Ahead: A Call for Steady Leadership

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has issued a stark warning about a “very, very stormy” decade ahead due to global conflicts, power shifts, and sharpening competition. Speaking to PTI in an exclusive interview, Jaishankar emphasized the necessity of stable and mature leadership for India during these turbulent times.

A Radically Different World by 2030

Jaishankar, drawing from nearly 50 years of experience in diplomacy and politics, described a radically different world by the end of the 2020s. He highlighted multiple conflicts, including the war in Ukraine, fighting in Gaza, and attacks in the Red Sea, as well as tensions in the South China Sea and the persistent threat of terrorism in various regions. These factors, combined with the advent of new technologies, are driving a significant global “churn.”

Decline of U.S. Influence

He specifically pointed out the declining influence of the United States as a major shift in the global power balance. Despite still being the premier power, the U.S. is now much closer in capability to other rising powers and has altered its global stance. This shift, according to Jaishankar, adds to the complex and competitive international scene.

Importance of Wise Voting in India

Jaishankar stressed the importance of wise voting in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections to ensure India continues with strong and stable leadership. He urged voters to consider who they trust to lead the country through these challenging times, advocating for the continuation of the National Democratic Alliance government.

Economic Consequences of Globalization

The minister also discussed the economic implications of globalization, noting that it has led to the concentration of manufacturing and technology in specific regions while hollowing out capacities in others. This has prompted countries to diversify production and protect jobs, driven by the social consequences of flawed globalization models.
