The attack on the bus near Ransoo resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, including seven pilgrims, and left 38 others injured.
From parents grieving the loss of their children to people who laid motionless, pretending to be dead to evade the gunmen’s bullets, the survivors of Sunday’s terror attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district were grappling with the aftermath.
The passengers were from various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Delhi. After visiting the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine near Katra town, they boarded a bus on Sunday morning to Shiv Khouri, a revered shrine of Lord Shiva near Ransoo in Pouni tehsil. It was on their return journey from Shiv Khouri to Katra that their bus came under militant attack.
Nine individuals, including seven pilgrims, were killed and 38 others were injured in the attack on the bus near Ransoo.
Santosh Kumar Verma from Balrampur district in UP was on the bus with his family, seated on the driver’s side. He recounted that the bus had barely traveled a few kilometers from Ransoo when he saw a masked militant standing by the roadside, firing at the bus driver.
“Seeing the militant, the first thought that crossed my mind was that we would not survive,” he said. “Before I could process it further, I saw the driver’s head slump onto the steering wheel, and the bus plunge into the gorge.”
