The Meta Quest app isn’t getting an update from Netflix, but Meta is making up for it by supporting online browsers. This means that you may switch between a flat 2D screen and a curved view to mimic sitting at a movie theater while streaming Netflix in high definition from the Quest Browser app.
Netflix hasn’t really had a great method to watch on the Quest. Netflix released a Quest app in 2019, but it hasn’t had any updates since. Video resolution is capped at a pitiful 480p. Up until recently, customers couldn’t view Netflix using the Quest Browser app.
Some users have attempted to overcome this by sideloading the Netflix Android app, while others have chosen to use the Quest’s Virtual Desktop mode to access Netflix via a browser.
However, since Netflix will be supported by the Browser app in the “coming days,” workarounds shouldn’t be necessary. Similar to the Apple Vision Pro, this device lacks a specific Netflix software, thus users are forced to access the service through Safari.
Support for background audio is also being rolled out by Meta, allowing you to keep listening to music even after you minimize the 2D app that it is playing in. In addition, it is adding new wrist buttons, support for external microphones, and improved passthrough on the Quest 3.
